Go Bucks!

If you live anywhere near Columbus, Ohio this time of year, it is all about OSU football! I've never lived anywhere where the fans are so dedicated. It's pretty cool. So, of course, we get a ton of requests for cookies and cakes that are OSU themed. It gets difficult to come up with anything new, but I did recently find this buckeye leaf cutter that I think looks great. The jersey is also new, and I finally found a way to do a more simple helmet to keep the cost down. What fan wouldn't love a package of these?!
On a side note, we're going to look at a building for rent in Clintonville this evening. I would LOVE to know how my customers feel about that area, whether you'd be willing to travel there for cake pick ups. We've looked all over Hilliard and just can't find anything that will work for us. :( Feel free to leave a comment or send me an email!

Pie Anyone?

This time of year always makes me a little pie crazy! It's amazing how I can go alllll year without a hint of pie, but as soon as the leaves start to turn color and the temperature dips a little, pie is foremost in my mind. At least I'm not the only one...my daughter has asked me half a dozen times where her pumpkin pie is. Maybe I should mail her a few of these! :)
These are my favorite cookies in awhile! The apple was a little difficult...and I'm seriously hoping it really does look like apple. If not, I'm okay with being ignorant. I also really like the chocolate silk one! Anything with sprinkles is aces to me though.

Baby Shower
It seems like I've been getting a ton of calls for baby shower cakes recently. Which is great, since they're one of my favorite occasions to design for! In the next couple weeks, I have another pregnant belly cake and also a 3D diaper bag that I'm looking forward to. And its a nice break from the holiday designs!Thursday, November 4, 2010
Fall Cookies

Well, fall is definitely here! The frost on the windows in the morning is always a sure sign and a reminder that winter is right around the corner. I feel like I'm behind, just posting Thanksgiving cookies. I was shopping last night and all the Christmas stuff was out. It seems too early for that! Ugh!
Two weeks left until Thanksgiving, so now is a good time to get your cookies ordered. We have a maple icing this year that is absolutely delicious! We also have spiced molasses cookies that can be substituted for the sugar cookies. Yum!

Redesigning Website
I think this could be a record. Three straights days of posts! Look at me go! :)
I wanted to clarify some changes you will be seeing on the website. I'm adding some pricing information just to help clarify pricing issues for newer customers. Due to the custom nature of my work, pricing is one of the most difficult things that I deal with. I'm hoping that by adding some more detailed information, it will help customers with an estimate and also to know what's in or not in their budgets.
It does NOT mean that you have to choose a cake on my site, that you can't make changes, etc. I can still customize every cake, and actually prefer to! But I'm hoping the changes will cut down on the confusion.

We're also still looking for the perfect retail spot, so if anyone has a lead on a wonderful building, please contact me! In the meantime, my hubby is doing a great job of stocking up on things we're going to need once we do open. He found a great deal on these two bakers racks, which will bring us up to four. Four of these will hold ALOT of cookies and cupcakes!

Madison County Bonanza

I know, I know, I know. I've been so terrible at upkeeping this blog that I may as well shut it down. But I'm going to try...again...to give it more attention!
Last week we catered dessert for the 2010 Madison County Bonanza, an event that raises much needed money for our county Chamber of Commerce. The theme was "Madisonopoly", so we had Monopoly decorations wherever we could fit them. This was our first time catering any type of dessert or dessert table, and I really did enjoy it!
(Our event was held at our local RV dealership, so that would explain the RV in the background! One of the RVs there actually had a fireplace in it. Seriously, it was nicer than my house!!!)

Possible Retail Location?....
Okay. My hubby and I have decided that it may be time to open a retail location. We're looking for an area where we can open a coffee/tea/bakery/cake place! :)
Because I have such AMAZING customers who travel so far for cakes, I'd love to move closer to them. However, it's hard to pick a central location. I have customers from Reynoldsburg, Marion, Grove City, Dublin, Hilliard....just about everywhere!
If anyone has any input on location, I sure would love to hear about it. We're looking for maybe a charming downtown area, not already populated with coffee shops and bakeries.
You can email me at brenscakes@yahoo.com. We are willing to consider anything at this point!!! :)

Taste of Central Ohio
I forgot to mention, we will be participating in the first annual Taste of Central Ohio. It will be on May 1st at the London Elementary School, as part of the Madison County Expo. Samples will be available from us, along with many other restaurants, bakeries, etc. It should be a fun time, so stop by and say hello!
Graduation Cookies

It's hard to believe that it's almost that time already! I'm sure many of you have already started planning your graduation parties. Good for you! (I, unfortunately, have not gotten that organized yet!) Now is also a great time to place your cake, cookie, and cupcake orders. We fill up so quickly around this time of year, between graduations and weddings. Also, we will be closed the weekend of June 11th-13th for our own graduation party. My daughter, Chelsey, is a senior this year. June should be an interesting month! :)

Happy Easter!!!!

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you're enjoying the beautiful weather! This weekend has been amazing....I even managed to get a bit of a sunburn working in the yard!
Next holiday up....Mother's Day! I'm going to try to start planning early this year. We'll have lots of cookie packages and gift baskets available for mom, so stay tuned! :)

Chocolate Easter Eggs
Easter is almost here!

Easter is one of my favorite holidays. I love making cute little treats with bunnies and flowers and chicks! :) It seems like the official "goodbye" to winter and the cold and the days with no sun. Easter seems like a good time for renewal and change. I've always thought that Spring is when people should really make resolutions! It's just fitting. We have lots of Easter treats posted on our website. We can individually wrap cookies so you can add them to your child's basket, or you can drop us off items you'd like included and we can handle the whole thing! Also new this year are one cupcake containers (like the clear one in front of this basket), so we can add cupcakes to baskets as well. They're super cute!
Enjoy the season!!!
Cake Competition

On March 7th, we competed in our first live cake competition at the Central Ohio Home & Garden Show. It was such a cool experience. Decorating in front of a crowd is definitely different! We placed 3rd, which I am happy with. We were very proud that we finished our cake in time! The contest was judged by Mary Alice and Geof of Ace of Cakes, so it was also cool to be able to meet them. They are an entertaining bunch!
And a special thank you to my daughter, Chelsey, who acted as my assistant...not an easy job! :)
